What Could You Do With Your Month?

Uncategorized No Comments »

Coming of the heels of Healthy Month, I have recently begun Learning Month.

For over 8 years I had been trying to get back into better physical health. Though I worked out 4 times a week, it seemed to be more of a counterbalance to my unhealthy life style. I wouldn’t gain weight, unless I stopped playing, but I wasn’t really feeling more physically fit.

In the middle of December 2009 we went away for a family vacation for a week. By the end of the week after filling my body with way to much junk. I decided it was time to change the pattern.

I needed a new approach.

If I tell you not to think about a pink elephant, the first thing that you will see in your mind is a pink elephant.

If I tell you there are no red cars on the highway today you will see more red cars than usual.

We focus more on the images than on the do’s or do nots that precede them.

I realized that stating the intention No More Junk Food, was not going to work for two reasons.

One was because all I would be seeing in my mind is Junk Food and then want to eat it even more and two because it was a totally undefined intention.

So here is what I did… I asked my wife What would our lives look like if we ate healthy for a month?

We spent about 2-3 min answering the question. Things like Vibrancy, more energy, healthier skin, lose weight, save money and more came up.

Then I asked What are the benefits of eating junk food? Aside from laughing and the question and emotional comfort food, nothing much else came up.

So I asked If there is such benefit to eating healthy, would it be worthwhile to try it for a MONTH?

And Healthy Month was born.

The month ended this past Monday.  Thank G-d we accomplished our objective. I lost 20lb, I’m leaner, stronger and have more energy.  My wife was in great shape to begin with but she has gotten stronger from doing more intense yoga workouts.

And now with healthy month ended I have developed the healthy eating habit. I just prefer healthy now.

And Now Learning Month

I suddenly realized that I have the opportunity to accomplish 12 personal development objectives this year. This is pretty massive when we can rarely follow through on one.

For some reason I began to reflect on my evenings. Usually after the kids go to sleep I putter around, pretend to do some work, watch a movie or just wander around aimlessly.

So I asked myself the question What would my life look like a month from now if I spent two hours learning 5 nights a week after the kids go to sleep?

WOW. 40 hours focused on cultivating my mind. I cant even imagine

I was sitting with a group of people at a 2hr workshop and the question that was asked was, Where would you be if you weren’t here tonight?

More than 50% of the ppl would have been doing something that takes little skill, shuts down your brain, has no true value and is an utter time waster….It’s scary that we all now that I am talking about watching TV or mindless net surfing.

I sat there smiling knowing that if I wasn’t at the workshop working my mind, I would have been at the local study hall working my mind.

Its never to late to make the best of your life. All you need to do is start with a month.

Bullseye

Take a moment to imagine.

What would your world would look and feel like if negative and limiting beliefs didn’t exist?

…….

I agree. WOW.

Just thinking about it causes tension to melt in my chest and forehead and the rest of my body begins to tingle with excited energy at the unlimited possibilities the are out there for me. I see myself effortlessly hitting my goals in every area of my business and personal life.

One limiting belief that I was reflecting on yesterday was in the area of Present Capabilities. What I mean by Present Capabilities is that you have taken steps to educate yourself in order to achieve various objectives, whether they are in professional or personal endeavors.

For example.

You want to become a lawyer.

  • You applied to University/College.
  • You took the required courses.
  • You did your articling.
  • You passed the Bar.
  • You are a practicing lawyer.

In the ideal process you move through each step effortlessly. Learning, internalizing, and growing in your capabilities.

Unfortunately what happens is we often let our limiting beliefs get in the way.

What if I’m not good enough?
I know nothing compared to ….
What if I mess up.
I’m surely going to mess this up.
What if I look like a fool.
I’m not ready for this.

This kind of negative self talk leads to nervousness, stress and anxiety, which usually brings about mistakes and failures.

Enter the mantra.

I’m here. So I am.

In our case of the lawyer. You have completed your courses and are ready to begin your articling. Your negative thinking and limiting self talk begins.

HIT THE BREAKS.

Take a deep breath close your eyes and say.

I’m hear. So I am.

I’m Here.

I’m here today beginning the next stage in my process to becoming a Lawyer. I have taken the necessary courses and passed my exams. I have proven myself and as a result am here today and this next stage.

So I Am.

I am ready for this next step. I am capable and prepared. I have the tools that I need to successfully move forward. I am supposed to be here. I will succeed.

When we encounter toxic people, we don’t spend our valuable time with them, we don’t look for ways to incorporate them into our lives. We walk away and look for good people that will enhance our lives in a healthy way.

So to with negative and self-limiting beliefs. We should not spend our time reflecting and living with these toxic thoughts. We should simply walk away from them and look to embrace good and empowering thoughts that will serve us in a healthy and positive way.

I’m Here.

What have you accomplished up to now?

What can you acknowledge about your accomplishments?

So I Am.

Be definitive.

Speak your truth.

Recognize who you truly are.

Be unlimited.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Money Money Money. I think It’s Time for a Sabbatical From Money.

By a show of hands.
How many people want to earn lots of money in their business?

Wow. That’s a lot of hands.

Now by a show of hands.

Who wants to live a meaningless life and die impoverished?

Yeah. Didn’t think so.

When I was 17 years old I set a goal for myself, that by 35 I wanted to have made my first million. This year though close to my goal I decided to give myself till 35yrs 364 days. I have less than 330 to go.

Today I made an interesting discovery. I am not really interested in money!

Now don’t get me wrong, I want to be very successful. I want to travel, take care of my family, give charity and enjoying the fine things in life, but I am not excited by money.

If you give me a $100 bill I will not get palpitations, enter a state of Ecstasy, or spend time admiring the artwork. I will thank you put it in my wallet and put it to good use.

The mind can only hold one thought at a time. If you wish to be successful in your life’s passion, how can you accomplish that if all you are thinking about is making money? If you are focusing on money, your mind is not focusing at all on what you really enjoy.

Imagine driving from New York to Florida and only looking at the odometer. Do you think you will get very far?

If you want to achieve success then its time to take a Sabbatical from thinking about money. If your business/passion is of value, by focusing all your energy into developing yourself, and serving your clients/customer, you will almost be guaranteed financial success.
If you focus on money then you will never arrive at your destination.

My passion is helping others, the path that I am expressing that through is Coaching. Every time I think about money, it is time I am taking away from supporting others in their success.

” I am now taking a sabbatical from focusing on earning money”

Whose with me?

Wishing you abundant success,

Rob

How are you feeling?

Exhausted? Overwhelmed? Unfocused? Miserable?

You are getting descent sleep and you are eating OK but you just can’t seem to get out of your rut.

It could be that your Procrastination List is way to long.

Have you ever tried to navigate your computer with 50 windows open, or not defrag your computer for a year? So to with your physical and mental world. When you mind is filled with dozens of things left undone, the clutter uses up all of your energy and makes you move slower than molasses.

But when you close all those files and defrag your computer? Whoosh. Every thing just flies.

When you remove the clutter of things undone from your life you experience a sense of ease, lightness, clarity and an abundance of energy.

The exhilaration that you feel after a physical clean up is far greater when you do a mental clean up.

The mental clutter in your mind that leads to procrastination is often as a result of three types of decisions.

Not Making a decision.

Being indecisive is a way we fool are selves into thinking we have multiple options. In truth we are in the paralysis of analysis and nothing gets done. Not choosing will sap your mental energy.

Look at being indecisive as if you made a decision. It is the decision not to act at all. By seeing it this way one of two things will happen, you will either close the issue as it has been decided “I’m not taking any action” or it will force you into making a more deliberate decision.

Deciding But not acting

Deciding but not acting on the decision.

This is related to what we spoke about in the last post
The Enemy Of Change

If you plan to start tomorrow then it will never happen. We can never be sure that tomorrow will come, all we truly have is today.

If you don’t take action on your decisions it is as if you never decided. ” I am going to start eating healthy tomorrow.” tomorrow arrives but you already forgot about your decision. It’s like you never decided.

When you make a decision take action. Action builds momentum, it gives life to your decision. With even the smallest action you begin the process that will lead to success. When you have made a decision, take action immediately. No matter how small the action, take it.

Decision with incomplete action.

As the saying goes “There is nothing like a job well done”. The key word is DONE. You know that feeling you have when you have been working on a project, a report, or maybe refinishing a bedroom and you finally finish it. That feeling is a key in building your momentum to continued success.

When you decide and take action but leave things hanging, you are continually nagged by that incomplete task. Again it drags on your energy.

When you complete something relish in the moment and celebrate, then take the high you are feeling and immediately begin on another task. The energy from the previous success will grow in the new project.

Success requires focus.

In order to succeed you have to be able to focus on the objectives at hand. When your mind is all cluttered with uncompleted projects, your focus is weakened and you are hampered in achieving your highest level of fulfillment.

So are you choosing to clean our your physical and mental clutter?

Here are 5 action steps.

1. Make a list of “My Incomplete Projects” – Make sure to include physical and mental things that are incomplete; Work, home, relationships, education, dreams, goals, meditation, fitness, healthy living, un-returned calls, an incomplete assignment, or a broken friendship left unresolved, etc.

2. See if there is anything on the list that you can complete immediately.
– Maybe there are some items that you will decide that you will make no decision and remove it from your thoughts. For example, You can’t decide between a Blackberry or an IPhone. Instead of being indecisive maybe you will decide to buy neither. You’ve gone this long without them you might as well just let it be.

3. Pick a few tasks that you complete this week. A few that you will complete this quarter and a few that you will complete this year. Take an action immediately. -Break down the tasks into manageable pieces, don’t try to do everything at once or you will become overwhelmed and end up wasting your life watching TV so you can sit in oblivion and avoid real life.

4. When you complete a task Celebrate and Take Action. -
Don’t take celebration for granted. When you complete a task celebrate whether you buy yourself and ice cream, treat your self to a massage, take a personal development course or go on the vacation that you always dreamed of (this last one might be save for finishing your whole list). After you have completed and celebrated TAKE ACTION. Move onto the next task and immediately take action. Remember no matter how small take action. If you decide that you what to exercise more, don’t wait till tomorrow, do 5 push-ups NOW.
5. When you have cleared your slate enjoy the moment and anticipate the future. – When you have removed the clutter from your physical and mental world, reflect on how you feel, really embrace that feeling. Then take joy in the amazing potential that lies before you. With a clear uncluttered mind, you will be able to take the things that matter most to you and focus your full and abundant energy on them.

Find the clutter! Clear the clutter! Feel the energy!

Have an Abundant Weekend,

Rob
