Hello 2010 – Beginning On The Right Foot

We resolve. We forget. We resolve. We forget.

For as long as people have been celebrating new years, they have been following this same pattern. They make large goals for the year ahead, and then as the exhaustion and hangover dissipate on the morning of January 2nd, the frenetic pace of life returns and, the resolutions of the week before are long forgotten.

If your journey is to the east and you travel south, you will never arrive at your destination.

We talk about goals of eating better, exercise, deep relationships, and overall discipline, and then we start are year with excessive eating and inebriation, meaningless kisses, and excessive sleeping and time wasting. Then as a result of our less than stellar choices, we reinforce the negative and make the possibility of achieving our goals all the more challenging.

As you live your moments, so you live your days, week, months, years and LIFE.

Making massive changes in you year and life can be overwhelming, intimidating and debilitating. To change a moment is manageable almost easy. Taking control of those moments will lead to massive life change.

Setting the stage for tomorrows performance.

You have some goals for this year. What is the goal that you want to work on? What is the process, the steps involved to reach that goal. When the stage crew sets the stage for a performance they put one piece, work on one detail at a time. Each piece/detail is not the set, the set is a result and combination of all the pieces.
A goal is not some thing we do, it is something we achieve, and we achieve it through taking the proper steps (one at a time) and the combination of those steps will result in the achievement of your goals.

A new way to enter 2010

Don’t repeat the same process that you have been doing all these years and expect different results.  For tonight just enjoy yourself (responsibly).

Tomorrow can be the beginning of your finest year. To achieve that you must begin with thinking.  Nothing heavy mind you. Partying all night and deep thought don’t really go hand in hand.

For starters just take some time on January 1st to ask your self some thoughtful questions.

What was great about me in 2009?

What strengths did I see in my self?

How did these great moments enhance my life?

What could I do different in 2010 to make my life even better? (answer in the positive)

How would it improve my life?

You’ll know that all these questions focus on the positive.  Positive Focus. Positive State of Mind. Positive Outcomes.

Sun Set. Sun Rise

A year will end and a new year will arrive, you have no controll over this. How you step into the year is in the sphere of your control.
Step forward, step with purpose, step with strength. Be Great.

Enjoy Your Success In 2010

Are You Defense Strong and Attack Weak?

Business, Uncategorized, Your Best Self, coaching No Comments »

On Wednesday I was playing Squash (my microcosm for reflective growth). Though he was scoring more points, I was doing a good Job of holding off my opponent. The strange thing was that when I had the serve, the level of my game dropped drastically. When I had to defend I brought my skills and strengths to the forefront but when I was on the attack, it was if I had fallen asleep.

I reflected on how this plays out in our business success.

Many times I have heard people say; “I just can’t take it to the next level” or “I know what has to be done, why can’t I succeed?”

I think that herein lies a key.

When we have to Defend what we have already built, we draw on the abilities that we have, we strengthen our resolve and we ensure survival. We do this because the alternatives are often to scary. We would either have to lose what we have built, or start over again.

When it comes to the Attack, the attempt to move forward, we tend to fall into complacency , we hesitate to take steps that might represent to much change, because change is really scary (at least that is what we convince ourselves to be true). As a result we hold back, we don’t draw on all that we have. We create the failure where it had no need to exist.

So what can you do to overcome.

One way is to visualize in your mind what the amazing outcome will be when you move forward. Another is to recognize the strengths and abilities that have brought you to where you are now, and accept that if you have gotten “here” then you can get “there”

The goal is to cultivate your abilities till you become Defense and Attack Strong. Then not only will you be able to hold your ground when the storm rages against, but you will also be able to reach the heights of your success when the way is open to you.

Wise Fathers Series – Transmitting, Receiving And Setting The Foundations For Success

Wise Fathers Series

There is a book that I continually read throughout the years. It is a book of sage wisdom that is over 1800 years old. Though the focus in the book is Religious/Spiritual, I have always found that a “Truth” is a “Truth”. It does not only apply in one specific area of life. It applies across the full spectrum of life and activities.

My hope is to share these insights daily. I hope you enjoy.

Transmitting, Receiving And Setting The Foundations For Success

The Wisdom Is Out There. It Being Transmitted Continually

King Solomon said “There is nothing new under the sun”

When we discover something in the tangible world, it may be new to us, but is was always there. Even when we have a new awareness in the world of thought, again it was already there, its just that we are discovering it for the first time.

Our world and existence is such a great gift. If we are willing to open up our mind and our senses we can learn so much from all that happens around us.

For example. I was thinking about the Butterfly Effect the other day. If it weren’t for the butterfly effect we would be able to predict the whether perfectly. But alas we never know when one of these random variable will pop up to change everything.

What can we learn from this? We are often told by others “I have the perfect system. Do it exactly as I tell you and you will succeed” or we see people having a beautiful relationship and we try to mimic it but don’t get the same results. In our lives there is no such thing as carbon copy, because we are the Butterfly in the equation. In anything that we learn and plan, we have to remember that we are the unique variable that always pops up and have to plan for accordingly.

So if the wisdom is out there how do we receive it?

Take two radios. One from the 50’s and one from the present day. Put them both to the same station. You will notice a massive difference in the quality. But why? They are both receiving the same transmission.

The better the receiver the more clear the transmission.

Lets switch to a water analogy.

What would define a quality container for water?

The container should:

  • Be empty. So it can fully receive the water.
  • Be clean so it doesn’t impart impurities to the water.
  • Be free of cracks or holes, so no water leaks out.
  • Have a wide opening, so it catches all the water.

Now how can this analogy be applied to us?

Be Empty
- If we are to full of our own ideas and fallacies. we wont have any room to learn anything new, to discover the truths of life.

Be Clean- Garbage in garbage out. When we fill our mind and bodies with garbage in the form of unhealthy foods and thoughts, it is almost impossible to find truth. That is a reason why we see so many failed relationships. People watch TV and try to learn how to have a health relationship from the fantasies that Hollywood creates. And even worse there are now reality shows on relationships that revolve around synthetic, shallow people and their relationships.
If you wouldn’t take the contents of a garbage can, blend it and pour it down your throat, why would you do it with your mind?

Free of Cracks an Holes
-This is about overall character. Actions speak louder than words. You want to act in a way that speaks your desire for a more refined and elevated life. Your speech and actions should be of a refined nature, ie. don’t be a boor. When every other sentence has a four letter word, you are announcing to the world that you are not capable of refined thinking, you are seen as a fool. When you treat others in a degrading way, you lower yourself in that eyes of others.

Wide Open – You have to have an open mind to what is happening around you. If you are narrow minded in your thinking you will miss all that the universe has to offer.
“Caution”. Being open minded does not mean trying and thinking about unhealthy things. It means creating an open state of mind that desires to seek the truths of life.

So I’ve searched for wisdom and I have tried to make myself a fitting reciever, what now?

As you gain wisdom and success in life. The greatest gift you can give, is to share it with others.

Truth is often compared to a flame. When you take a candle and light another candle with it, you do not diminish the first flame in any way. The first candle keeps its light and the second candle now has its own light. You could use one candle to light an infinite number of candle and its light would never diminish, and together all those lights would shine as bright as day.
