It's definitely a mix for me. I love classical, but some times the words just give me that added fire.

I use music to guide my emotions a lot. It's not generally vocal, and I'm likelier to have playlists than individual songs; I've been known to deliberately go for upbeat, fast-tempo'd songs when working on particularly tedious, brainless jobs or ones that require a physical component (on the one hand, spreadsheeting; on the other, attacking wild foliage). But my biggest use for music is in my writing; it's almost guaranteed that I'll find some sort of piece that fits whatever mood I'm trying to set, so I just put that on while I plan out a scene or figure out a description.

I don't seem to need an explicit, sung message. If anything, I find the words get in the way of what I'm supposed to be learning.
