43. Refining The Technorati Favorites Exchange.

I was reading JohTP’s Want to do a Technorati Favorite Exchange?

The key line in it.

“Currently 22 people have favorited JohnTP.com to their Technorati Favorites. I am looking forward to increase this by offering an exchange, i.e, I am willing to favorite your blog if you favorite mine.”

ÂÂ

In five days he has gone from 22 to 74 equally impressive is that the post itself has 69 comments already.

In reading some post commenting on the topic of link exchange it is interesting to see how some people really love the idea and others find it incredibly cheap.

I would like to comment then offer one refinement to the idea in order to remove the cheap.

The CommentÂÂ

When trying to sell a product very often the seller tries to add value, “Rent this apartment get a free LCD TV, or By a washer dryer get free detergent for a year, or buy a new car get free gas for a year”. There is nothing wrong or deceptive in adding value, it is just something that is used to make you stand out in the competition.

In the bloggosphere it is all about interactions. There are hundreds of millions of bloggers and we are trying to compete for their eyes and minds. Part of the way we do that is by interacting with other bloggers, though we could randomly start clicking on blogs (cold call) it is much easier when a blogger initiates with a comment (warm call). It is often difficult to get bloggers to comment, but by offering this added value (lets trade links), the doors of social interaction are thrown wide open and the interactions create the potential for growth.

I participated in it and also interacted with other bloggers through the comments and in 3 days I have gone from 0 favorites to 18. But I have also made some new friends, we have checked out each others blogs added RSS’s and discussed Ideas, which in itself is of incredible value

The Refine

If you are going to try a Technorati Favorites Link Exchange. I would like to recommend an added condition. VALUE. If the reader finds your site to be of value then you would appreciate if they would favorite you, likewise if you find their site of value you will favorite them.

The main reason this came to mind was because when I was looking to trade links with some of these bloggers that had traded JohnTP, I found that some were of no interest to me, and others were just bad taste (one guy had a site that was graphically dedicated to looking for the perfect female behind).

ÂÂ

So for myself.

Currently 18 people have favorited www.robschaumer.com and www.robschaumer.com/blog  to their Technorati Favorites. I am looking forward to increase this by offering a possible exchange.

If you find my site of value I would appreciate if you would add me to your Technorati Favorites.

If your site it something that is of interest or potential interest I will add you to my Technorati Favorites.

To favorite robschaumer.com click here and then put your blog’s link in comments so that I can return the favor. Of course I will be checking if you have favorited me, so please do mention your Technorati username too.

If you start a post like this on your blog using JohnTP‘s approach please share his link.

If you choose to do it with my refinement I would appreciate the link also.

P.S. If you have not read Post 41. Anyone Game? , please check it out and participate. Thanks
