Be Determined With Love, Or Be Annoying.

Your Best Self No Comments »

I am currently taking part in a personal development process. It is part of an annual cycle, where every year around this time I spend 49 days trying to work on myself mentally, physically and spiritually.

The primary theme of this week is Victory and Eternalness. Its about succeeding in a way that leaves a lasting impact. Its about permanence and legacy.

The sub theme for this day is Lovingkindness. Its about generosity of spirit and a caring heart. Its about putting others before yourself.

The objective for this day is to combine Lovingkindness and Victory.

You have to be determined in order to succeed. You have to push hard, go to the edge, in order to attain victory. But if you don’t temper it with Lovingkindness you can come across as harsh, overbearing and controlling. With a pure focus on victory  you can seem like a steamroller flattening everyone in your way.

Victory with Lovingkindness is about tempering your determination for victory with a thoughtful and caring nature. Being mindfull of those around you and how they can share in the process, or how they can at least be respectful and supportive of your goal.

Questions to reflect on today:

How am I going about attaining my success?

Do I approach my goals with a cold and determined focus, ignoring the voices of those around me?

Do I feel that the only way to guide the people around me is with the rod of discipline?

Do I have  a “my way or the highway” attitude to fulfilling my objectives?

Do I beleive that the only way to succeed is in an emotionless abrasive manner?

Exercise for the day:

When you encounter a situation today where you have the opportunity to focus on achieving your goals and objectives. See how you can add an element of Lovingkindness to the process.  It there someone who you can ask to be involved,? Is there a way you can be more encouraging and supportive? Is there different words you can use to get your message across?

Remove The Garbage And Clutter, Then Move Forward.

Imagine having a new home built. The day finally arrives, the builder calls you up to tell you that your house is finished and you can move in.

You call the moving companies load up the trucks and head over to your new home. When you get there you notice that there is dust all over everything from all the sanding and sawing that was done. also there is dirt and debris all over the floor from that workers coming in an out of the house. Lastly there are drop cloths, plastic, tape and tools everywhere.

So what do you do? Obviously you just begin to move in. You put all your dishes in the cupboards and drawers, put in all the furniture, and hang the pictures and blinds, and then when that is all done you can enjoy the beauty of your new home.

I agree if you saw someone doing that you would think they were quite off. So why is it when we want to start getting our life on track we always try to build it on top of all the dirt and clutter?

Take a look at your workspace. Is there clutter everywhere? Are there thousands of emails that need to be deleted, computer and paper files that need to be purged and organized? Outdated books and magazines that need to be trashed? Office drawers that are so full and messy that every time you try to take something out your hand gets stuck in the tangle?

We have to be a little crazy to think that we can effectively start new projects when we have all the clutter and chaos around us. You need to start from a rock solid foundation. Doing so will help you to focus on your task and be clearer in your thinking.

Before you begin to take on that new challenge, take a day or two to clean house, get things in order and once you have it all together begin to plan forward. You will be amazed at how much more productive you are and how much more ease there is in the entire process.

Coaching Questions:

  • How will I feel when I have “Cleaned House”?
  • How will “Cleaning House” help me to accomplish my goals?
  • What clutter do I need to get rid of to clear my space and mind, so I can move forward on my next project.
  • What have I not looked at in years and will probably never look at again, can I toss it?

Enhance Productivity. Be Honest With Yourself When Procrastinating.

Short Thoughts 2 Comments »

Have you ever gotten to the end of a very busy day wondering why you feel like you didn’t accomplish much?
Its quite possible that instead of being productive with your day, you filled it with time waster after time waster.

Now you might be thinking that you didn’t waste much time today. You didn’t chat with friends, watch TV or YouTube vids. You didn’t even check travel information for that trip you want to go on, or check Craigslist for that elliptical that you have been trying to get at a good price. Infact you feel that you have been pretty work focused all day.

That may be so, but the question is, was your work related activity part of being productive or procrastinating?

How many times did you check your:

  • Email?
  • Twitter/Facebook/Squidoo/etc?
  • Stock/investment portfolios?
  • Affiliate programs to see if you have gotten any new affiliate or commissions?
  • Newsletter sign up page.

How about watching a informational work related video, or reading some work related post/blogs, when it is not part of your current objective?

How about writing a “useful” post, when you should be working on another task that you have set for yourself? - (OK this one is directed at me personally.. I really should get back to work now.)

Throughout the day it is worthwhile to check in with yourself. Make sure you are on task, and honestly evaluate whether your current activity is task related or just procrastination.

Remember procrastinating, will never lead to success. It will just have you jumping all over the place without focus and proper direction.

Well on that note. I best get back on task or else……

Have a Stupendous Weekend,

Rob
