Shocking, isn’t it?

I was listening to the news today and the were talking about a recent study which discoverer, the women who expose to much cleavage at the office are less respected and less likely to get promotions. Men thought women who dress more modestly are smarter and more professional.

Imagine that.

It is said that we are in the age of information, but that does not mean that we are in the age of intelligence.

In my teens I read a book by Terry Goodkind called Wizards First rule. In the book the wizard tells his apprentice this important first rule:

People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it’s true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People’s heads are full of information, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool.

Unfortunately that line read in my teens is still true over a decade later.

For so many people their default is ignorance and stupidity. They turn of their minds off and give them over to marketers of unnecessary products. They let their lives be guided by reality TV shows, that promote sexual promiscuity, aggressiveness and yes “stupidity”

Some other things that might come as a shock to you:

  • If you are a jerk with body odor, buying AXE products will not turn you into a babe magnet. It will just make you a jerk without body odor.
  • Paris Hilton doesn’t care about you. Those foolish people that try to be her “BFF” are so pitiful, they are trying to impress a spoiled two year old. If their significance in life is defined by the fact that they nullified themselves and and shed all their dignity to Paris Hilton to become her best friend, they might consider sitting in a corner and crying over their pathetic lives.
  • Michal Jackson: He had some good music, it pretty much stops there. But the marketers pray on the foolishness of the masses and have made tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars since his death. His chart topping record sales??? More people hoping to make money on collectors items. Micheal Jackson lead a life that most would consider odd, and many would be disgusted by, but because he knew how to entertain, you now give him valuable thought space.
  • Men with hair transplants do not lead better lives. Men with healthy self-esteem lead better lives. Lean to differentiate.

Solutions to problems do not have to be difficult, more often than no they are quite simple.

What is the solution to the problem of stupidity?

START THINKING. START ASKING QUESTIONS.

Before you get move by the events happaning around you, turn on your thinking tool and ask yourself some questions.

Here are some starter questions:

Why am a placing value on this?
What is the deeper need for me?
What do I really want?
Do I need it or want it?
Will this really make my life better?
Am I joining the stupid train?
Is this really worth my valuable time?
On a scale of 1-10 how important is this in my life?
What will really add richness to my life.

G-d put you at the steering wheel of your body to journey on your amazing life. How painfull it would be to get to the end of your days and suddenly realize you never took hold of the wheel.
