The past few days I have been thinking a lot about beliefs and convictions (not the criminal type). In my life there are many beliefs that I have, like; Family and G-d are of primary importance, making my wife happy, being a good father, meaning in life is through giving to others, I have the ability to help people through my coaching, living healthy is a sure way to greater fulfillment in life, etc..

But as I reflected on these beliefs I began to wonder, Do I show any real conviction in these beliefs? The answer was no.

So big deal, I don’t have convictions will that really have such a big impact on my life?

When I think about people that have made a positive difference in this world, like David Ben Gurion, Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King, I see people who took their belief to the level of conviction. These people could have sat comfortably at home and cared about the world in thought, but instead through conviction they translated those beliefs into powerful and passionately dedicated action.

So is it a big deal? For me the answer is a resounding YES!

King David said (Psalm 90:10) Our years are 70, and if we have great strength 80.

I am only in this life for a short time, I can live it to the fullest or let it pass by. I want to realize the fullness of my abilities in this world. I don’t want to just know the greatness that rests inside of me, I want to share it. I want my impact in the world to be more than just displacing earth when I am buried at the end of my days.

A Belief Becoming A Conviction.

I have always known that I have the gift of helping others improve their lives. Since my childhood I have often found myself in situations where I have been there for others and supported them in their growth. For the past 3 years I have been working with clients to help them gain greater leadership in their businesses and lives, to create success with balance. But even with a steady practice I have realized that I am serving my clients with the casualness of a belief instead of the passion of a conviction.

Awareness precedes change and change happens in an instant. I have begun to ignite that belief with the passion of conviction. I want to utilize my abilities fully to create profound and positive impact in peoples lives. Though my passion is business, I see that the tools I use can help in health, addiction, relationships, etc.

Coming of the heels of Healthy Month, I have recently begun Learning Month.

For over 8 years I had been trying to get back into better physical health. Though I worked out 4 times a week, it seemed to be more of a counterbalance to my unhealthy life style. I wouldn’t gain weight, unless I stopped playing, but I wasn’t really feeling more physically fit.

In the middle of December 2009 we went away for a family vacation for a week. By the end of the week after filling my body with way to much junk. I decided it was time to change the pattern.

I needed a new approach.

If I tell you not to think about a pink elephant, the first thing that you will see in your mind is a pink elephant.

If I tell you there are no red cars on the highway today you will see more red cars than usual.

We focus more on the images than on the do’s or do nots that precede them.

I realized that stating the intention No More Junk Food, was not going to work for two reasons.

One was because all I would be seeing in my mind is Junk Food and then want to eat it even more and two because it was a totally undefined intention.

So here is what I did… I asked my wife What would our lives look like if we ate healthy for a month?

We spent about 2-3 min answering the question. Things like Vibrancy, more energy, healthier skin, lose weight, save money and more came up.

Then I asked What are the benefits of eating junk food? Aside from laughing and the question and emotional comfort food, nothing much else came up.

So I asked If there is such benefit to eating healthy, would it be worthwhile to try it for a MONTH?

And Healthy Month was born.

The month ended this past Monday. Thank G-d we accomplished our objective. I lost 20lb, I’m leaner, stronger and have more energy. My wife was in great shape to begin with but she has gotten stronger from doing more intense yoga workouts.

And now with healthy month ended I have developed the healthy eating habit. I just prefer healthy now.

And Now Learning Month

I suddenly realized that I have the opportunity to accomplish 12 personal development objectives this year. This is pretty massive when we can rarely follow through on one.

For some reason I began to reflect on my evenings. Usually after the kids go to sleep I putter around, pretend to do some work, watch a movie or just wander around aimlessly.

So I asked myself the question What would my life look like a month from now if I spent two hours learning 5 nights a week after the kids go to sleep?

WOW. 40 hours focused on cultivating my mind. I cant even imagine

I was sitting with a group of people at a 2hr workshop and the question that was asked was, Where would you be if you weren’t here tonight?

More than 50% of the ppl would have been doing something that takes little skill, shuts down your brain, has no true value and is an utter time waster….It’s scary that we all now that I am talking about watching TV or mindless net surfing.

I sat there smiling knowing that if I wasn’t at the workshop working my mind, I would have been at the local study hall working my mind.

Its never to late to make the best of your life. All you need to do is start with a month.

Experince the power of Professional Life Coaching.

Go to ProBonoCoaching.com and sign up for a complimentary session.

As well. I set up a new site a few days ago called Pro Bono Coaching www.probonocoaching.com . The intention is to help coaches like myself hone their skill, share the power of coaching and hopefully turn complimentary sessions into paid clients.

We resolve. We forget. We resolve. We forget.

For as long as people have been celebrating new years, they have been following this same pattern. They make large goals for the year ahead, and then as the exhaustion and hangover dissipate on the morning of January 2nd, the frenetic pace of life returns and, the resolutions of the week before are long forgotten.

If your journey is to the east and you travel south, you will never arrive at your destination.

We talk about goals of eating better, exercise, deep relationships, and overall discipline, and then we start are year with excessive eating and inebriation, meaningless kisses, and excessive sleeping and time wasting. Then as a result of our less than stellar choices, we reinforce the negative and make the possibility of achieving our goals all the more challenging.

As you live your moments, so you live your days, week, months, years and LIFE.

Making massive changes in you year and life can be overwhelming, intimidating and debilitating. To change a moment is manageable almost easy. Taking control of those moments will lead to massive life change.

Setting the stage for tomorrows performance.

You have some goals for this year. What is the goal that you want to work on? What is the process, the steps involved to reach that goal. When the stage crew sets the stage for a performance they put one piece, work on one detail at a time. Each piece/detail is not the set, the set is a result and combination of all the pieces.
A goal is not some thing we do, it is something we achieve, and we achieve it through taking the proper steps (one at a time) and the combination of those steps will result in the achievement of your goals.

A new way to enter 2010

Don’t repeat the same process that you have been doing all these years and expect different results. For tonight just enjoy yourself (responsibly).

Tomorrow can be the beginning of your finest year. To achieve that you must begin with thinking. Nothing heavy mind you. Partying all night and deep thought don’t really go hand in hand.

For starters just take some time on January 1st to ask your self some thoughtful questions.

What was great about me in 2009?

What strengths did I see in my self?

How did these great moments enhance my life?

What could I do different in 2010 to make my life even better? (answer in the positive)

How would it improve my life?

You’ll know that all these questions focus on the positive. Positive Focus. Positive State of Mind. Positive Outcomes.

Sun Set. Sun Rise

A year will end and a new year will arrive, you have no controll over this. How you step into the year is in the sphere of your control.
Step forward, step with purpose, step with strength. Be Great.

Enjoy Your Success In 2010

Rob
