Is It Lack Of Sleep, Or Lack Of Purpose.

Do you wake up in the morning feeling exhausted? Do you spend your day in a sleepy funk?
Depending on the source, we seem to need anywhere between 5-8hrs of sleep a night, but for many even if we sleep 10-12 hrs a day we still feel wiped.

It might not be lack of sleep that is causing fatigue, it might be lack of Purpose. A good way to test this is to think about the last time that you had to get up early in the morning to do something that you were really looking forward to. Maybe it was a camping trip, maybe going for a morning stroll and coffee with an old friend, or maybe an exciting cruise or vacation, it might have even been the first day of a new job that you were psyched about.

If you got up with relative ease right when your alarm went off, and flew through your morning, you are probably lacking purpose more than sleep.

When we don’t know what we really want to do with our life and have no plans for the coming day to fulfill a purpose, it is hard to get up in the morning and face the unknown. It is better to stay in the oblivion of sleep then to face the depressing realization that we have no purpose in our life.

When we know what our purpose is, how we are going to fulfill it and what needs to be done now to bring it to realization, we can’t help but fly out of bed in the morning. How can we waste our time lying in bed when, the day holds so much planned potential.

So how can we find our purpose?

Start Journaling.
Journaling is not a diary, a diary is for writing about the events of your day. Journaling is a personal growth session with you as your own coach.
In your journal write at the top of the page “What Makes Me Happy”, and then write the first 20 things that come to mind. Don’t think about the answers, just be reflexive. After you have finished writing, don’t look at the answers (yet). For the next 7 days ask your self the same question and go through the same process. After 7 days of journaling, go over all the answers and see if there is a recurring answer. That answer might hold the key to your purpose.
Another thing you can do is ask your friends what you are good at. What is it that you do that your friends appreciate, that makes them feel good?
Keep in mind that your purpose doesnt have to make you money. Your purpose might not make you a single penny, but having that purpose will make it easier to work, because you will know that your work is making it possible for you to spend time focusing on the thing that give your life meaning.
